Children’s Christmas cheer comes to Saxonwood care home

Residents at Saxonwood care home in Battle welcomed children from Battle and Langton Primary School to their home to sing Christmas songs on Tuesday 18 December and great fun was had by both young and old.

Akshara Kale, in year 4 at the school said: “My grandparents live in India so I don’t get to see them much so it’s nice to come and visit older people. I think they liked our singing and ‘give a little love’ is my favourite song we sing, it’s cheerful and makes people feel happy.”

The performance included a variety of traditional and more modern songs and concluded with the popular ‘we wish you a merry Christmas’ which had everyone singing along.

Sigita Kaleja, Deputy Manager at Saxonwood said: “Thanks to the children and staff who joined us in creating some festive cheer for our residents, it was fantastic bringing these two generations together today. Our mission is to help older people live their later lives to the full and activities like this create a warm community spirit at Saxonwood, enriching the lives of everyone.”

Mrs Worsley, Year 1 teacher and Choir Leader said: “The children have worked so hard and love performing. They have found it exciting to come to Saxonwood and we have an ongoing partnership with the home, but our Christmas visit is always so special, the residents had lovely smiles on their faces.”

Saxonwood is currently offering a 14 night stay for the price of 12 nights. We know winter can be the hardest time of year for the older generation and we want to help people over 65 stay healthy. For more information please contact the home.
