Our care homes support Dementia Action Week

Residents and staff at Ardath care home in Bexhill, Saxonwood care home in Battle and Woodlands care home in Crowborough are celebrating Dementia Action Week with free events open to public.

Dementia Action Week, organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, takes place from 21 to 27 May and encourages everyone to take actions big and small to improve the lives of people affected by dementia.

Come along to the following FREE events at our homes:

Portrait of an era (musical reminiscence) - Monday 21 May, 3pm to 4pm at Saxonwood care home, Battle TN33 0EY. Through the power of music and song participants will enjoy an hour of lively singing and memory sharing, with the possibility of a dance too! We will provide free refreshments and cake.

Create a 'Flower of Emotional Needs' – Tuesday 22 May, 11am to 12pm at Ardath care home, Bexhill TN40 2HJ. A hands on activity which will see each participant creating their flower of emotional needs. Participants will have the opportunity to think about how their love, comfort, identity, occupation, inclusion and attachment needs can be met, and for those who do not have dementia, how we can meet the same needs of those who do. We will provide free refreshments and cake.

Good old fashioned games – Tuesday 22 May, 3.30pm to 5pm at Saxonwood care home, Battle TN33 0EY. Come along and enjoy some traditional games that have been passed through the generations.

Mastermind in the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s. Wednesday 23 May, 11am to 12pm at Ardath care home, Bexhill TN40 2HJ. A fun interactive session where questions and answers will be shared about these decades to stimulate discussion and sharing memories of this era. We will provide free refreshments and cake.

Remembering times gone by – Wednesday 23 May, 11am to 12pm. Woodlands care home, Crowborough TN6 1UD. A stimulating activity which will use the power of the senses (smell, taste, sight, touch and hearing) to give participants the opportunity to wander down memory lane and share their stories. This will be a socially engaging activity for everyone involved and we will provide free refreshments and cake. 

Create a memory box – Wednesday 23 May, 2pm to 3pm at Woodlands care home, Crowborough TN6 1UD. A hands on activity which will see each participant creating, or adding to, their memory box which they will take away. Participants will have the opportunity to share their memories which we will help to capture. We will provide free refreshments and cake.

Remembering times gone by - Thursday 24 May, 3pm to 4pm at Oakwood Court care home, Haywards Heath RH16 4BG.  A stimulating activity which will use the power of the senses (smell, taste, sight, touch and hearing) to give participants the opportunity to wander down memory lane and share their stories. This will be a socially engaging activity for everyone involved and we will provide free refreshments and cake. 

Create a memory box (as above) – Friday 25 May, 3.30pm to 5pm at Saxonwood care home, Battle TN33 0EY. We will provide free refreshments and cake.

Create a wish tree - Saturday 26 May, 11am - 12pm at Saxonwood care home, Battle TN33 0EY. Help our residents add their wishes and decorate their wish tree. We will provide free refreshments and cake.

Remembering times gone by - Saturday 26 May, 11am - 12pm at Ardath care home, Bexhill TN40 2HJ.  A stimulating activity which will use the power of the senses (smell, taste, sight, touch and hearing) to give participants the opportunity to wander down memory lane and share their stories. This will be a socially engaging activity for everyone involved and we will provide free refreshments and cake. 

In the UK, one person develops dementia every three minutes. Yet too many people living with dementia face the condition alone and excluded from society. Sussex Housing & Care’s mission is to help people live their later life to the full.
