Last Thursday the residents of Yvonne Robertson House retirement housing Bexhill visited Devonport House in Rye, for a day of tea, cakes and sightseeing.
The group came over to visit the site as they were interested to meet other residents within Sussex Housing & Care properties, as well as having a chance to look around a nearby town.
A lovely day out
Cliff Howe, a resident of Yvonne Robertson House said: “It was really interesting looking around another scheme. We spent an enjoyable couple of hours with the residents there, chatting and getting to know each other. Some of our party have previously lived in rye so it was like being around old friends. We spent the rest of our time in the local market, and seeing the sights of Rye.”
Outings like these are a great chance for residents to meet each other; especially as there are different local opportunities at different sites allowing residents to explore new interests. Scheme managers from both sites joined the residents and this has sparked more visits to be planned with other schemes.
Irene Wright, resident of Devonport House, said: “It was thoroughly successful. Everyone was friendly and it was just nice to see folks from other complexes. I’d definitely do it again, and we are planning a return trip to their site.” Sussex Housing & Care are keen to support links between communities and encourage residents to continue and start new hobbies and interests.
