Bexhill community comes together for Care Home Open Day 2018

Residents and staff at Ardath care home in Bexhill welcomed local businesses, members of the public, and the Deputy Mayor of Bexhill, Councilor Abul Azad, for national care home open day on Saturday 21 April.

This year’s event was supporting the national theme to link communities, and several local businesses set up stalls in the gardens at Ardath. These included locally made arts and crafts, a healing and massage stall, jewellery and traditional stained glass items, which residents and guests enjoyed browsing.

Donations from all the stalls, the tombola and cake stall, as well as any remaining cakes, all went to local charity, Dom’s FOOD mission, who give food to the homeless and those in need.

Peter, a resident at Ardath said, “I have really enjoyed today, seeing all of the different people coming together and chatting, I feel so relaxed after my hand and back massage, and have enjoyed sitting in the sunshine watching the event.”

Deputy Mayor of Bexhill, Councillor Abul Azad, said, “It was an honour to be invited as the Deputy Mayor of Bexhill to the open day of Ardath Care Home. Meeting with the residents and staff made me realise how important such care homes are.

“Our town is known for providing lifestyle facilities to the vulnerable, especially the elderly. I congratulate the founder and all the supporters that have taken the initiative to launch this establishment.

“There were all sorts of stalls and each sale contributed towards making the event successful. I wish Ardath Care Home good luck and great success for the many many years to come.”

Lindsey Sherwood, Care Home Manager of the Sussex Housing & Care owned home, said: “Our mission is to help people live their later lives to the full and today has very much supported this mission. Our residents have had a great time and we’re keen to continue to build meaningful relationships with the local community to enrich the lives of our residents. Today has been an opportunity to showcase Ardath and for people to see that it’s a friendly, happy and exciting place to be.”
