Battle community comes together for Care Home Open Day 2018

Residents and staff at Saxonwood care home in Battle, invited friends, relatives and members of the local community for a cream tea and interactive arts and crafts session, to celebrate Care Home Open Day.

This year’s event was supporting the national theme to link communities, and guests contributed to a piece of artwork ‘hands’, where residents, guests and staff drew around their hands and decorated them. They were then linked together in a final piece of artwork which also included those of residents and guests at Ardath care home in Bexhill.

Donations from the raffle, all went to local charity, Bexhill Dementia Action Alliance.

Joan, a resident at Saxonwood, said, “The best part of my day has been selling the tickets for the raffle and raising lots of money for Bexhill Dementia Alliance. We have been really busy so they are going to save my cream tea so I can enjoy it later.”

Lindsey Sherwood, Care Home Manager of the Sussex Housing & Care owned home, said: “Our mission is to help people live their later lives to the full and today has very much supported this mission. Our residents have had a great time and we’re keen to continue to build meaningful relationships with the local community to enrich the lives of our residents. Today has been an opportunity to showcase Saxonwood, and for people to see that it’s a friendly, happy and exciting place to be.”
