Sussex Housing & Care appoints new Chair of the Board

Sussex Housing & Care is delighted to announce the appointment of Garry Martin, as Chair of the organisation.

Garry’s appointment comes at a time when this provider of housing and care for older people in Sussex is one year into an ambitious three year change programme, to put customers at the heart of everything they do and to become renowned for quality, staff commitment and innovation.

Garry has a wealth of experience, he started his career in civil engineering and progressed through various disciplines in the construction industry holding Board appointments in public and private companies that specialised in residential development.

In parallel with this Garry gave his time to the charity and voluntary sector, particularly in the fields of education and health including appointments to chair the Patients Advisory Forum followed by chair of the Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Garry said: “Residents are the absolute focus of everything we do and underpin the work of the entire organisation. I see the Board being accessible, totally aware of our customer’s needs in an ever changing, highly competitive market and responding positively to meet those changes.

We recognise the aging population in the South East and we are seeking to work in conjunction with others to meet older people’s requirements in the housing and care arena. Although we are a Sussex wide organisation we have recently established four operational regions so we can work more closely with local communities and respond to local demands.

Garry continued: Personally, I am looking forward to visiting residents at our various sites, hearing their feedback and ensuring our services are continually updated and developed to provide the best quality of life to all.”

SHC are grateful to Dave Hill, the outgoing Chair, who oversaw a three million pound investment programme in Sussex Housing & Care properties, and completed the high quality developments of The Rowans in Crowborough and Cheneys Lodge in Seaford.
