Sussex Housing & Care celebrates commitment to real Living Wage

Sussex Housing & Care has accredited as a Living Wage Employer. This means that every member of staff in our organisation earns not just the minimum wage but the real Living Wage.

Rhianna Gillespie, Care Assistant at Sussex Housing & Care said: “It’s amazing Sussex Housing & Care have made this commitment and it makes me feel respected and appreciated for the work I do. I’ve worked for a few other care homes and I’ve always been on the minimum wage so having the real Living Wage is a reward for my hard work. Thank you Sussex Housing & Care!”

Tracy Evans, Chief Executive said: “I’m delighted that we have been accredited by the Real Living Wage foundation this year. At Sussex Housing and Care we are a people business at our core and paying the Real Living Wage is the right thing to do. We are a housing and care provider and have over 180 staff providing housing and care to our residents. We value all our staff and what they do, and therefore it is really important that we recognise this through financial reward.”

Sussex Housing & Care is based in the South East, a region where 17% of all jobs pay less than the real Living Wage - around 635,000 jobs. Despite this, Sussex Housing & Care has committed to pay the real Living Wage and deliver a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.

Tess Lanning, Director, Living Wage Foundation said: “We’re delighted that Sussex Housing & Care has joined the movement of over 4,700 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on.

“They join thousands of small businesses, as well as household names such as IKEA, Heathrow Airport, Barclays, Chelsea and Everton Football Clubs and many more. These businesses recognise that paying the real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and they, like Sussex Housing & Care, believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay."
