Spending time with Margaret

Creating a brighter life for our residents is what we aim to do and with the sunny moments club in our care homes, we’ve brought a ray of sunshine to Margaret’s life at Oakwood Court in Haywards Heath.

Margaret enjoys her own company and has been used to spending time in her room. She rarely wanted to join in with group activities and her social time has always been over lunch, when she joins others in our dining room for a chat.

Over the last three months, our Activity Co-ordinators Sandra and Khirsty have chatted with Margaret to get to know her better, and found out about her love of reading, especially her enjoyment of biographies.

Khirsty soon went to the local library and found Margaret a selection of biographies, including a Mozart biography to combine reading with her interest in music. Margaret was delighted with these library loans and passed on her thanks to Khirsty for arranging this.

Since, Margaret has been spending more time in our communal lounge with other residents and has particularly enjoyed one to one activities including hand massages and pampering. We’ve all got to know Margaret better and have enjoyed hearing about her life through the war in London, her role as a social worker and her son and family.

Our sunny moments club has made a real difference to Margaret, increasing her social interaction, mental stimulation and wellbeing.
