Residents at Saxonwood care home enjoy MP visit

Residents and staff at Sussex Housing & Care’s care home in Battle, Saxonwood, were delighted to welcome Dr Kieran Mullan, Member of Parliament for Bexhill and Battle, on Friday 24 January.

Dr Mullan MP met with Georgie who shared news about her charity work, having raised nearly £2000 for the Royal British Legion and St Michaels Hospice. After being shown around the home by Deputy Manager Roxi, Kieran spent time talking with residents about the issues that mattered to them, whilst enjoying a cup of tea and homemade cheese scones.

Tracy Evans, Chief Executive of Sussex Housing & Care said: “It was great to welcome Kieran to our home and show him how we put residents at the heart of everything we do. We were also able to talk to him about the brilliant inter-generational projects at Saxonwood. Our care home has strong links with the local Battle community and residents love welcoming people into their home. Keiran’s visit also provided an opportunity to discuss some of the key challenges faced by the social care sector.”

Dr Mullan MP valued the opportunity to meet older people in his constituency and said: “It was a great pleasure to visit the residents and staff at Saxonwood Care Home in Battle last Friday. I had some interesting chats with residents about their lives and we also discussed local and national issues too. I was pleased for the opportunity to thank Georgie Farrow, who has just celebrated her 90th birthday, for the amazing fundraising she has achieved for St Michael’s Hospice (which I’d visited earlier that day) and the Royal British Legion. I was happy to contribute to her fundraising in return for a fantastic woolly hat she had knitted for me! There is such a happy and welcoming atmosphere at Saxonwood thanks to the wonderful staff who work hard to look after the residents and ensure they are fully involved in the Battle community.”
