Improving our resident's quality of life

After Miss Hills had a nasty fall and broke her hip and wrist, she spent time recovering in hospital and was unable to walk. This meant Minnie, her lovable Jack Russell dog, was sent to friends outside of the local area to be looked after. Our scheme manger Fiona, noticed the impact of missing Minnie, was having on Miss Hills and did everything she could to reunite the best friends.

Fiona said “Dogs are part of the family, and Miss Hills needed her companionship with Minnie to help speed up her recovery. I went the extra mile to contact The Cinnamon Trust and arranged for Minnie to be moved back home and a local dog walker to come and take her out every day. This did them both the world of good, and it’s satisfying for me to be able to support residents to have the best quality of life as possible in their own home.”

Miss Hills was grateful for Fiona’s arrangements and said: “I had been looking forward to having Minnie back, I did miss her, and as I’ve had dogs since 1955 it was strange not having her around. Thank you to Fiona for all her help.”

Sussex Housing & Care helps many people to gain their independence through supported housing. We are celebrating the 'Starts at Home' campaign on 2 September 2022 alongside housing associations up and down the country, to ensure that people who need extra support will always have a home that meets their needs.
