Friday 30th August is Starts at Home Day - a day when housing associations across the country celebrate supported housing and the positive impact it makes on people's lives. We have spoken to a number of our residents to find out what difference it has made to them..
After making the difficult and brave decision to leave an abusive relationship after 28 years, Lavinia sought the help of her doctor and social worker, and initially moved to a guest house in Brighton. After a few months, Lavinia counts herself lucky to have been offered a flat at The Cedars.
“It’s been a rollercoaster but it’s good to be here. In just a few months, I have managed to get out and go on a bus, meet friends and interact with a few people. My whole life has turned around for the better.
I’m really happy at The Cedars. It’s quiet, peaceful and safe, which is the main thing for me and my dog – he’s doing really well too – we’re going through it together.
If it wasn’t for the people here, I would be a total wreck. They have helped me a lot. It’s amazing what you can do with the right support. Now I know I have a bright future.”
