Sandra is the Administrator at Saxonwood Care Home in Battle and has recently been awarded a Diploma in Business Administration following her two year part time apprenticeship. Congratulations Sandra!
Here is Sandra's experience of the Level 3 NVQ apprenticeship…
“After I passed my six month probation I discussed the opportunity of an apprenticeship with my manager Sigita, I love learning so I was keen to start!
My apprenticeship enabled me to study for six hours a week during my working hours, and enroll at
East Sussex College in Hastings. I’ve been supported by a tutor who I emailed regularly and he has visited Saxonwood three times to observe me at work, for example, observing my communication with colleagues, visitors and residents.
The Diploma covered a variety of modules including; project management, ICT for business, communication in a business environment and managing performance. At the beginning of each module my tutor would meet me to explain the topic. I gave two presentations which include examples of my day to day work, one of these presentations featured event management including planning, implementation and evaluation. I have also completed three exams.
I do so much during the day at work, it’s been nice to focus on one thing and get my head into learning mode. I’ve enjoyed learning new skills in Microsoft PowerPoint and the diploma has highlighted the scope of everything that’s in my job.
Sussex Housing & Care encouraged me to study and have supported me throughout, especially with the time I’ve needed. I’ve worked closely with Sigita and used my one to one meetings to keep her up to date with my progress and she’s given her support.
I’ve felt chilled and relaxed about my diploma, I love learning and am always reading or pursuing a qualification. When I heard I had passed I felt a real sense of achievement and gave myself a pat on the back, although I’m quick to move on and am always thinking “what can I do next?!” I’m looking forward to sharing some formal learnings and ideas I have.”
