Residents at Cheneys Lodge in Seaford are celebrating the success of a recent Charity Fun Day. Despite being unlucky with the weather and a last minute to change to move indoors, the event raised a total of £1034.06 to be divided between two charities, Air Ambulance and Crohns Colitis UK.
The day kicked off with the Mayor of Seaford, Nazish Adil, being transported to the scheme by Cycling without Age Seaford and greeted by Town Crier, Peter Woods. Residents at both Cheneys and the neighbouring scheme, Falfield, had organised many stalls including a tombola, guess the weight of the cake, a raffle, a plant stall, and many more.
Live music added to a fantastic atmosphere with Richard and Dave, residents at Cheneys and Falfield, playing guitar and keyboard, local choir Haven Harmonies, and Francesco, a talented keyboard player who is just 19 years old.
Bike rides around the local area were provided by Cycling without Age, a charity that supports people that are not able to get out by providing trips to the seafront or local shops on a bike with seating at the front, ridden by a volunteer ‘pilot’.
Mayor Nazish revealed the plaque of Leo Cheney, former owner of Cheneys, who was a famous illustrator and cartoonist, and died in 1928 aged 45 years.
Transport was provided for residents at nearby schemes owned by Sussex Housing & Care – Martlet Court in Brighton, Old Park Close in Cuckfield and Oakwood Flats in Haywards Heath.
Leah Taylor, Scheme Manager at Cheneys Lodge, said, “Myself and the residents would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who supported the event, contributed prizes, and who came along and donated on the day. We are so pleased to have been able to raise such a fantastic amount for Air Ambulance and Crohns Colitis UK, charities that residents chose to support. We look forward to organising next year’s event, which promises to be even bigger and better!”
