Chris helped to care for his mother and lived with her in his local town of Lewes, East Sussex. Sadly, she passed away leaving Chris with no where to live and a tough six months in temporary accommodation. The local council helped him to apply for housing and he moved to Sussex Housing & Care’s sheltered accommodation for older people in Lewes.
“I’m a local Lewes person and I feel amazingly lucky to have my flat here for the last 5 years. I’ve had a new kitchen and bathroom and the quality of the build and workmanship was impressive. I have support from Leica the scheme manager, and she has recently helped me get a higher attendance allowance for my disability and medical conditions. She’s such a lovely lady and helped me with all the long, difficult forms. She’s a diamond, she’s always approachable and helpful.
I definitely get more support living with Sussex Housing & Care than I would renting privately, this place is well above good and it’s like a big family. The grounds here are maintained and everywhere is neat and tidy, I have lovely garden views from my flat and I really rate the place.”
Sussex Housing & Care helps many people to gain their independence through supported housing. We are celebrating the 'Starts at Home' campaign on 2 September 2022 alongside housing associations up and down the country, to ensure that people who need extra support will always have a home that meets their needs.
