Residents at Woodlands care home in Crowborough are ‘hanging up memories’ in a new art project to capture times gone by and create positive thoughts.
The ‘hanging up memories’ project involves residents creating small items from craft materials and hanging them on a washing line with their memory of a time before the ‘tumble dryer’.
Pauline Dixon, 89, who lives at Woodlands care home (pictured above) said: “I’ve enjoyed this project very much and it’s made me think about when I lived in Norfolk and how there was a lovely sea breeze and beautiful smell, it was never still. Even now, I can vividly conjure up the smell of the sea. The project has made me feel relaxed and it’s been fun.”
Lee Hares, Care Home Manager said: “This fantastic project has stimulated residents to share and reflect on memories they might not have otherwise thought about. It has evoked all sorts, from tastes and smells, to who they were with and where they were, whilst hanging their washing on the line.
‘Hanging up memories’ is part of our ongoing activity programme which provides a range of mental and physical wellbeing activities for residents to enjoy. During these unprecedented times we’ve tailored our programme to support residents to stay in touch with loved ones using video calls and a family and friends Facebook group.”
