It’s always fantastic to hear about staff who come back to work for us. They support our values and put residents at the heart of everything they do.
Antra, who is a Care Assistant at Saxonwood care home in Battle, tells us about her experience of working at Saxonwood, moving away and then re-joining the Saxonwood team.
“In 2016 I began work at Saxonwood with a care agency soon after moving to England from Latvia. I enjoyed working with the team and in the care home, and successfully applied to become a permanent member of staff. However, for a year I moved to the West Midlands for personal reasons and then took a short break from caring.
I moved back to Sussex in 2022 and started work again for a care agency, working 60 hours a week, which made me feel very tired! I then moved jobs to a permanent role at a small nursing home in Hastings, where I cared for five residents. It was interesting to get experience in delivering nursing care, I helped residents with pressure care and I learnt a lot from the nurses at the home.
I have followed my dreams and enrolled on a life coaching course and a hypnotherapy course. I am currently setting up my own business and came back to work at Saxonwood in August last year as a Bank Care Assistant. This means I have the flexibility to continue my studies and also continue working as a carer. I love working with older people and I feel like I am part of their family. I listen to all of their stories and really try to think and look from their perspective, so I can show patience and empathy.
I’ve come back to work for Sussex Housing & Care at Saxonwood because they are a supportive company and the team at Saxonwood are friendly and fun. I have developed my career with Sussex Housing & Care and have achieved a Level 3 in health and social care.”
