Jodie pursues a career in care

Supporting the professional development of our staff is important to us and we’re delighted when colleagues take on new roles to further their career.

The last year has been an exciting one for Jodie Adams who began working with us as a Care Assistant at Woodlands care home in Crowborough four years ago. Jodie soon became a Senior Carer and since April 2021 she has fulfilled the role of Deputy Care Home Manager at Oakwood Court in Haywards Heath.

We caught up with Jodie to hear how she’s getting on: “I’m really enjoying my new role, it’s a lovely team at Oakwood Court and they’ve made me feel very welcome. It was a big challenge for me to move to another care home in the group, but I’ve settled well and as I already knew some of the staff from joint training sessions, as well as the systems we use, it made it easier.

“Thank you to Sussex Housing & Care who took a chance on me which has paid off. I didn’t see myself in a Care Home Deputy Manager role but with the support I’ve had to progress, and the encouragement to aim high, I feel it’s the best decision I’ve made and I wouldn’t look back!”

Welcoming new people to our team

It doesn't matter about your background or how old you are, if you want to help people there's a care job for you.

You don’t necessarily need any qualifications or previous work experience to work in our care homes. What’s really important is your values and attitude towards working with people who need care and support.

We’ll be there to support you every step of the way. We have a comprehensive induction programme when you first start, so you can shadow colleagues and become familiar with our service. You will have regular one to one meetings with your line manager and all the training you need. We will support you to work towards any necessary qualifications.

If you share our values and can see yourself following in Jodie’s footsteps, then come and care with us;

  • to put residents at the heart of everything you do;
  • to care about what you do and the impact you have;
  • to treat everyone with fairness, dignity, kindness and respect; and
  • to make a difference together as one team

We are a Real Living Wage employer and we care about our people. Here are our current vacancies.
